BADC Officials Study Minor Irrigation Systems in Vietnam & Philippines

To enhance agricultural productivity through effective water management, the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) initiated a key international learning program under the Sylhet Division Minor Irrigation Development Project (SDMIDP). Management and Training International (MTI) Ltd. was proud to implement this customized ‘Overseas Training / Study Tour Program’.

From June 5-13, 2018, a total of 14 officials, divided into two batches, traveled to Vietnam and the Philippines. These countries were specifically chosen for their advanced and innovative approaches to minor irrigation and agricultural development, offering highly relevant models for the Sylhet region.

The program was designed to be a dynamic blend of theoretical learning and practical observation. It included classroom sessions and interactive discussions with resource persons, providing a strong foundation in the policies and technologies driving success in the host countries.

To see these concepts in action, the delegation undertook extensive field visits in Vietnam and visited project offices in the Philippines. This allowed them to witness firsthand the implementation of modern irrigation techniques and understand the operational management of similar development projects.

The program culminated in a closing ceremony at the Asian Institute of Technology in Vietnam (AIT–VN), marking the successful completion of a highly impactful knowledge exchange. The insights gained from this tour are poised to directly benefit the implementation of the SDMIDP, contributing to improved water resource management and agricultural prosperity in the Sylhet Division.
