Strengthening National Resilience: MTI Facilitates MoDMR Study Tour on Disaster Management in Canada

As a nation on the frontline of natural and climate-induced hazards, Bangladesh has made a strategic shift from conventional relief efforts to a comprehensive risk reduction culture. To support this vital mission, MTI Ltd. was honored to manage a high-level exposure visit to Canada for the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief (MoDMR).

Learning from a Global Leader in Emergency Management

A three-member delegation, led by then-Secretary Mr. Md. Shah Kamal, traveled to Toronto to study Canada's world-class, multi-layered approach to disaster management. The visit was designed to provide practical insights into risk reduction, emergency response, and climate resilience that could be adapted to the context of Bangladesh.

The program included strategic meetings and knowledge-exchange sessions at several key institutions. A visit to Ryerson University’s Faculty of Disaster and Emergency Management provided a strong academic foundation, connecting the delegation with the latest research and policy frameworks in the field.

To understand practical governance, the team also engaged with experts at Emergency Management Ontario (the provincial authority) and Emergency Preparedness-City of Toronto (the municipal body). These visits offered a comprehensive view of how disaster response is coordinated across different levels of government, from provincial strategy to on-the-ground city-level execution.
