Strengthening Food Security: Ministry of Food Training in Southeast Asia

In a sustained effort to bolster Bangladesh's national food security framework, Management and Training International (MTI) Ltd. organized a series of comprehensive international training programs for the Ministry of Food. These initiatives focused on learning from the dynamic and diverse food management systems within key Southeast Asian nations.

Across the fiscal years 2017-18, MTI managed and coordinated multiple programs on ‘Food Safety, Security, Handling and Management.’ These intensive, multi-batch tours provided 38 officials with invaluable exposure to regional best practices in Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines.

In 2018, a total of 19 officials participated in two batches, traveling to Indonesia and Malaysia from March 31-April 9 and May 29-June 7. This followed a similar successful program in 2017, where 19 officials in two batches visited Indonesia and the Philippines from September 28-October 6 and October 18-26.

The programs combined academic learning with practical, high-level engagement. In Indonesia, participants attended in-depth training sessions, while the visit to the Philippines featured strategic meetings with the Ministry of Agriculture in Manila to discuss policy, regulation, and nationwide implementation strategies.

By facilitating these back-to-back, multi-country programs, MTI ensured a broad and comparative understanding of regional food security challenges and solutions. This sustained capacity-building effort has equipped a significant cohort of Ministry of Food officials with the knowledge to further enhance Bangladesh's food safety and management systems.
