Ministry of Food Explores Food Safety & Supply Chains in Canada & Mexico

Management and Training International (MTI) Ltd. has been a steadfast partner to the Ministry of Food, organizing a series of customized international training programs over three fiscal years (2016-19). These initiatives, involving a total of 78 participants across various countries, are central to Bangladesh's commitment to enhancing national food security and modernizing its food management systems.

This post highlights a key program from this series: an ‘Experience-Sharing of Policy Interaction Activities on Food Safety, Quality and Supply Chain Management.’ This tour was specifically designed for an 11-member team in connection with the vital ‘Construction of 1.05 Lakh M.T. Capacity New Food Godowns (1st Revised)’ project, implemented by the Directorate of Food.

From October 8-18, 2018, the delegation traveled to Canada and Mexico to engage with leading academic institutions and observe best-in-class operational practices. The program blended multiple training methods, including academic sessions, site visits, and high-level meetings, to provide a holistic and practical learning experience.

Participants gained deep knowledge on food safety, security, handling, and modern management systems. The curriculum included visits to exemplary sites to inspect food storage facilities, understand advanced food processing systems, analyze efficient supply chain management, and explore the latest technological applications in the field. Meetings with government experts, non-government organizations, and university faculty provided a multi-faceted perspective on food security governance.

This initiative successfully equipped key officials with the international insights and technical knowledge necessary to ensure the new national food godowns are built and managed according to the highest global standards, significantly contributing to the nation's food security infrastructure.
