Advanced Bridge & Highway Engineering Training in UK & USA
In connection with the landmark 3rd Karnaphuli Bridge project, the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges organized a high-level international training and study tour to equip its key officials with the latest knowledge in bridge and highway engineering. This intensive program brought a delegation of eight participants to leading institutions in the United Kingdom and the United States.
Held from December 30, 2017, to January 11, 2018, the program was a dual-destination initiative conducted by London Corporate Training (LCT) in the UK and the prestigious Duke University in the USA, providing a comprehensive and globally-informed perspective.
The curriculum was meticulously designed to address the specific challenges and opportunities relevant to major infrastructure projects in Bangladesh. The training covered a wide array of critical topics, including:
- Recent developments in highway pavement design and bridge construction.
- Principles of sustainable infrastructure development.
- Selection of appropriate highway structures and bridges for the Bangladesh context.
- On-site demonstrations of modern highway and bridge maintenance techniques.
- Best practices in management, quality control, and traffic management.
- Design and operation of off-street parking facilities.
- Advanced experience in designing and installing modular steel bridges and pontoons.
At Duke University in North Carolina, USA, the delegation engaged in in-depth academic sessions and discussions, leveraging the university's world-class expertise in engineering and public policy.
This strategic training initiative provided an invaluable platform for knowledge transfer, ensuring that the officials are equipped with cutting-edge skills to enhance the quality, durability, and efficiency of Bangladesh's vital transport infrastructure.
