Building a Greener, Safer Bangladesh: MTI's Role in the Climate Resilient Participatory Afforestation and Reforestation (CRPAR) Project

In one of the most ambitious environmental initiatives in the country, MTI Ltd. was proud to be a key implementation partner in the 'Climate Resilient Participatory Afforestation and Reforestation' (CRPAR) project. In collaboration with the Environment, Agricultural and Development Service Ltd. (EADS) and Dhaka Ahsania Mission, this massive undertaking aimed to strengthen Bangladesh's natural defenses against climate change while empowering its most vulnerable communities.

A Multi-Faceted Approach to Resilience

The CRPAR project was designed with a holistic vision, addressing both environmental and socio-economic challenges. Covering nine coastal and three hill districts, its primary objectives were to:

• Ensure Food Security & Livelihoods: Provide employment and access to basic services for the poorest and most vulnerable communities through social forestry.
• Build Natural Defenses: Strengthen the capacity of communities to manage natural disasters by establishing natural shelter belts and expanding the coastal "greenbelt" with mangrove planting.
• Strengthen Institutional & Community Capacity: Enhance the ability of the Forest Department and local communities to handle disasters and integrate climate change control measures into development.

From Planning to Execution: MTI's Large-Scale Training Delivery

MTI's core responsibility was the massive capacity-building component of the project. Our activities involved a meticulous, end-to-end approach:

• Comprehensive Needs Assessment & Planning: We began by conducting a thorough training needs assessment to develop a comprehensive training plan for Bangladesh Forest Department (BFD) officials and staff.
• Customized Module Development: Based on the assessment, we developed two distinct sets of training modules—one tailored for the technical needs of 380 BFD officials, and another designed for the practical, on-the-ground needs of 17,000 community-level project beneficiaries.
• Large-Scale Training Delivery: MTI successfully conducted intensive 5-day training programs for the BFD officials and rolled out 1-day training sessions for the 17,000 beneficiaries across all 12 project districts.

By training a staggering 17,380 participants, the CRPAR project stands as a landmark achievement in participatory environmental management. MTI Ltd. is honored to have played a central role in empowering both government officials and local communities with the knowledge and skills needed to build a greener, safer, and more climate-resilient Bangladesh.
